“Pushing the boat out”

One-of-a-kind events @ The Boathouse, London

If you’re thinking of “pushing the boat out” and organising a truly original one-of-a-kind event, The Boathouse London could tick all the boxes. Conveniently located in Central London, every inch of this stylish barge oozes understated elegance. It still has all the quirkiness of its former life as an industrial barge with steps and narrow doorways, but inside the space has been transformed.

Stylish furnishings

Natural wood panelling and porthole mirrors neatly tie the cushioned living area to its nautical surroundings. The contemporary decor and designer furnishings are courtesy of Made.com, and it shows. Tasteful and unfussy, it has a certain Scandi simplicity offset with hand-picked artworks and deep-cushioned seating. The logburner creates a cosy atmosphere on even the dampest December day.

Clever use of full-length mirrors and a neutral palette featured in the decor, soft furnishings and eye-catching accents have overcome the inevitable challenges faced in converting an industrial barge into an elegant events and accommodation space.

Indoor and outdoor space

Ideal for balmy summer evenings, the roof has been transformed into a chic urban garden. Wicker chairs and a bench table provide a place to kick back on the “deck” and enjoy a bottle of fizz and tapas for nibbles. There’s a chimnea for creating a warm glow as you chatter or gaze up at the star constellations above. When it’s time to blow out the candles, the oversize bed is as comfortable and snug as it looks.

The barge has its own fully equipped bathroom with proper “loo” and free-standing bath tub. The enviable kitchen includes a full-size gas stove and ample counters for laying out a buffet-style feast. For events, it becomes the perfect cocktail bar. There’s a separate dining table and the squishy sofa opens up as an extra bed should guests need to crash for the night.

For breakfast, look forward to a Rude Health selection of breakfast goodies such as granola, muesli and almond milk. Indulge in breakfast in bed or perch at the breakfast bar and welcome the new day.

Ideal for…

The Boathouse may look at first glance like a romantic weekend getaway in boutique surroundings with West London shopping and nightlife just a walk or bicycle ride away. The gangway provides a physical and mental disconnection as you leave city bustle behind and step into this cosy space. However, the spaciousness of the living area coupled with the outdoor deck make it the perfect space for hosting an unforgettable launch party, supper club, yoga brunch, surprise birthday party, corporate picnic or catered lunch on the river.

The Boathouse can easily accommodate 20 diners inside and a further 15 on the open “upper deck”. Hire a private chef or a self drive picnic boat and you can enjoy a scenic cruise to Little Venice as part of your one-of-a-kind event.

Getting there

The Boathouse is moored in Floating Pocket Park in Paddington Basin and surrounded by bustling restaurants and apartments. Easy to reach, it is a 5-minute walk from Edgware Road Tube Station and seven minutes from Paddington – it doesn’t get more central!
